Ludlow & Surrounding Area

Ludlow is a thriving market town - an architectural gem with a lively community feel. It bustles with events throughout the year. It is surrounded by the unspoilt and beautiful hilly countryside of south Shropshire and the Welsh border country, known as the Welsh Marches.

A beautiful and peaceful area to visit, Ludlow and south Shropshire is noted for the quality of its natural and built environment. Ludlow Castle and the old walled town is perched on a cliff over looking the River Teme. Half timbered buildings jostle with elegant Georgian town houses, the town centre is a conservation area with around 500 listed buildings (including 130 Corve Street).

In recent years, Ludlow and the surrounding area has acquired an international reputation for the quality of its food and drink. Some of the best restaurants in Britain can be found here, encouraged by the areas abundance of top-quality food and drink producers and suppliers. Every September, the showcase for this is the Ludlow Marches Food and Drink Festival, when the town is filled with food lovers from all over the UK, and beyond. Repeated for a second time this year is Ludlow Food Festivals' new Spring Festival which takes place in Ludlow Castle. A weekend of music and good food. Celebrating great local beers, bangers, bread, classic cars - and much more!

The annual Ludlow Festival (2 weeks in June and July) features an open-air production of Shakespeare in the Castle, and a whole host of arts and music events.

Visitors who like sports and other active recreation will find plenty to do; a wide variety of events and activities are on offer all year round. From horse riding to horse racing, walking to fishing, cycling to football, Ludlow offers it all. A large leisure centre is situated on the edge of the town and offers all the facilities you would expect, including pool and gym.

Ludlow has a wide range of shops, including many specialities, many of which are independently owned. Antique shops, booksellers and art galleries add to the cultural experience.
